Standard 5

Teachers demonstrate leadership.

School Leadership

At Monarch, I have demonstrated my collaborative leadership qualities in several ways this year.

  • Diversity Committee: I have attended every Diversity Committee this year, and took the lead in designing a Diversity Survey that was delivered to the faculty at a faculty meeting.

  • Full Participation in all Faculty Meetings: I have attended all of Monarch's faculty meetings and contribute ideas to our discussions and activities. At the beginning of the year, I shared a document entitled "Interrupt, Follow Up" to help support teachers in addressing verbal abuse.

Professional Leadership

This year, I have demonstrated my professional leadership by:

  • Attending all school and district professional development meetings

  • Successfully completing the BVSD Induction Program

  • Chaperoning and participating in the Safe Schools Leadership Conference at CU

Ethics

As a teacher I demand ethical behavior on the part of my students by being clear and consistent with my classroom norms. To and immediately addressing harmful language I have used the strategies developed in my Queer Endeavor cohort, as well as from the "Interrupt, Follow Up" handout linked above. In each of my classrooms and next to my desk in the office, I display the BVSD Safe Zone posters as a constant reminder that Monarch is a Safe Place for all students and staff regardless of disability, race, creed, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity/expression, national origin, religion, ancestry or need for special education services.
